Innovative Approaches to Experiential Learning Outside of the Classroom

This webinar will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

A college education used to be one of the ways a future employee could stand out among the many applicants. Now, the number of jobs that require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree has increased. Moreover, a good GPA and a completed bachelor’s degree are no longer enough. Experiential learning and skills development are becoming increasingly more important to employers when screening resumes (Job Outlook 2023, 2022), resulting in colleges and universities developing signature and high-impact practices, as well as other activities to support out-of-classroom learning. Due to this growing emphasis and demand on experiential learning and competency development, Providence College School of Business decided to create a high-impact program in collaboration with the PC Chirico Career Center, called Friar Leadership Immersive Program (FLIP). The FLIP program has been very successful among fi rst-year students and is starting to see growth in participation among second- and third-year students, as they introduce PCBiz Basics and Advisory Tracks. The FLIP initiative, powered by Suitable, is an entirely mobile experience that provides students with intentional activities in careers and industries valuable to them while simultaneously furthering their profi ciency in skills deemed essential for success in the workforce. This webinar will provide strategies and research-based insights on the benefi ts of experiential learning, featuring Providence College School of Business and how they have developed an experience-based approach to fostering students’ professional and personal development. Discover their experience-based methods for enhancing students' professional and personal growth to bridge the skills learning gap and increase engagement within the business school.
